Balranald Shire Council public inquiry

Last year a public inquiry was brought upon Balranald Shire Council by the then-New South Wales Minister for Local Government Gabrielle Upton.

On January 29, 2019, she appointed a Commissioner, Roslyn McCulloch  to conduct the inquiry with six key points identified to report on.

The public inquiry accepted written submissions and gave the chance for the mayor, general manager, councillors and members of the public to have their say at the inquiry in person.

On January 29, 2020, the now-NSW Minster for Local Government Shelley Hancock accepted the commissioner’s recommendations, dismissing the council’s mayor and councillors effective immediately.

An administrator will now run council for at least the next four-and-a-half years.
